Show Me Some Postivity

My most compelling pet peeve is, without a doubt, people who are constantly negative. I don't mean people who are a bit crabby; I mean the people who do not contribute a thing to any type of solution or improvement. The people who sit there and say, "This sucks. I hate this. Can't you think of something better?" Then, they sit there and stare at you for 45 minutes. The people who can't smile, the people who always make sarcastic jokes at others expense. Those are my biggest pet peeves. I understand that we all complain from time to time, but would it kill people to be a little more open-minded? Life is so incredibly short, and the how's and who's shouldn't matter. Only the what's and why's should. Life is more enjoyable when you can crack a smile.

If you're looking for an example of what I'm talking about here; listen to this story. A girl in my gym class told me that my music taste is "stuck in the 6th grade." I told her that her opinion does not change my music tastes at all. She didn't say anything else, and she seemed fairly stunned. I'm not sure why though, I was raised to have independent views and to never let anyone tell me how to live my life. My music makes me happy, no matter how incredibly lame it may be to someone else.

Examples are all around the world. As they say, "there's one in every crowd." But we, the optimissists, the oppurtunists, WE must keep our head up. We must keep smiling, keep pushing forward to reach our goals. When I was little, my mom used to tell me that I should surround myself with postive people. I used to think that was the stupidest idea ever. Why would I want to surround myself with people who can't sit down and shut up? But I finally saw the light; postive people do postive things, and that is what creates change in the world.

So where does one get inspiration for positivity and erase the negativity? Well, I have a few quotes that may provoke some optimism. “You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you, you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period.” This is a quote from the movie, Pursuit of Happyness. This is an important quote because it explains that you need to do what makes you happy, no matter how many people tell you it's impossible or irrelevant to life.

Another fine example is a poster in my 5th hour has a caption that says ""Surround yourself with people you want to be like." displayed with a picture of a dull pencil surrounded by several sharpened pencils. The point of this poster is to show that you become what you're surrounded by, or possibly despite what you're surrounded by in certain situations.

Why should you promote change and exhibit enthusiasm? Dr Suess explained it rather well. Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. Finally, my ending quote is another saying from the great Dr. Suess. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. This is a very true quote. Why spend your life trying to impress people you don't even like? You need to live your life the way you want to.

I have a few suggestions for you to avoid the loud negativity. Rule number one: Never listen to negativity, more so when it's coming from someone who does nothing but sit around and complain. Rule number two: Find something you enjoy and don't let it go. Rule number three: if you can't see something positive, then you need to get your eyes checked. Another fine idea is to check out the following websites; they reinforice what I am talking to about. Here are the hyperlinks to the websites Tips For Remaining Optimistic and HowTo Remain Positive around Negative People. This isn't an official rule, but I have a feeling that if you listen to anything, you should probably listen to my final statement. While darkness tries and tries, the sun shines regardless.

  1. Melissa, I feel like your post gives me so much insight to why your personality is the way it is. You are always so happy and smiling, I love it. If everyone were like you, the world would be a better place. Negativity is seeping into the world, making it dark and dreary. Positivity and optimism make the world bright. Keep shining. :)

  2. First of all, I love the Pursuit of Happiness :)

Second of all, this whole paper is so true. No one should have to sit around and hear someone complain of how much they hate his/her life or how his/her day is just not going great. Maybe that person needs to realize that adding negative comments on top of everything just isn't going to help. I really liked this blog :)I think it really shows your personality because you seem like a really sweet person. Great job!!
